"If a doula were a drug, it would be malpractice not to use it." By Dr. John Kennell
Hi, I am
Beverly Young Reed. I am a birth and postpartum doula, childbirth
educator, and am accredited in Triple P (Power of Positive Parenting). I
supported my first birth on April 1, 1992. I received my DONA
certification in 2003, and my Triple P accreditation October 2008. Over
the years I have had the opportunity to attend various continuing education
classes, that range in topic from "The Lure of Induction", to "The Art of Labor
Support", "Optimal Fetal Positioning", Postpartum Home Care", "Using your Birth
Ball", "Teaching Breastfeeding", "Quick Guide to Lactation Teaching", and
"Acupressure in Childbirth".
I am married to a great man, and we have 5 great kids. My girls are 23 & 12, my boys are 20, 18, & 15. We also have experienced pregnancy loss at various stages. Our little girl would be 13, she passed away at 20 weeks gestation. I have been a foster mom to many. I am the Drama Mama at the local high school. I volunteer with Operation Special Delivery, supporting families who are separated by war. I also volunteer with a local hospital as a doula.
My doula practice is slightly different than others because I offer the Positive Parenting resource to my clients. As an accredited Triple P practitioner I offer parenting consultation as art of my birth practice. This is an evidence based program to help parents with issues that arise in everyday parenting.
I have supported many families over the years. And one thing they have in common is that they come from various backgrounds, cultures, economic status, and structures. I have attended births in hospitals, birthing centers, and at home. One thing I have learned is that there are no two families alike.
My heart is one of service, which is why being a doula is a great job match for me. It is a privilege when a family chooses me to work with them. As families take a step into the unknown of parenthood. I enjoy providing them with education, support and encouragement. My role is to support and encourage my clients and their partner in their choices. And to help provide resources and education as needed. It is their birth, postpartum, family not mine.
I have received, and continue to receive, education and training on many topics of birth, postpartum, and parenting. I use this to support families encountering various scenarios.
The birth of each child creates a new family. Each baby and family is different, so the services I provide as a postpartum doula for each family varies depending on need. Some of the services I provide during the postpartum time are breastfeeding and bottle feeding support, newborn care, bathing, swaddling, and sleeping techniques, basic housekeeping, cooking meals, setting up snacks, shopping, sibling support, and care for mom.
My desire is to care for, support, and encourage each family on their path of life. I consider it a privilege to be supporting your family in this capacity, and i would be honored to share this most miraculous event with you.
Below you will find a list of past and present memberships, trainings, certifications, and volunteer experience. I feel that by providing you with this list it will help you in the important decision of choosing a doula.
